In response to this market opportunity, 9States successfully delivered an 800-bed modular worker camp for a mining operator located in the high-altitude Andes region of northern Chile.

Adapting to Extreme Environmental Conditions

Located above 3,000 meters in the Atacama Desert, the mining site experiences extreme diurnal temperature swings (nighttime lows around 0°C to daytime highs exceeding 40°C), intense UV radiation, strong winds, and arid conditions with sand and dust. Our engineering team implemented a series of targeted modifications to ensure comfort and durability.

Enhanced Insulation System

  • 75mm PU sandwich panels for walls — upgraded from standard 50mm EPS, providing superior thermal performance against both extreme heat and freezing nights
  • Double-layer insulated roof with reflective coating to reduce daytime heat absorption

Sand and Dust Sealing

  • Double the standard sealant application — all joints, gaps, and connection points receive enhanced silicone sealing to achieve near-zero dust infiltration
  • Aluminum alloy window frames with double-seal rubber strips to withstand strong desert winds and prevent sand ingress

High-Altitude Configuration

  • High-capacity split air conditioners installed in every dormitory module, capable of rapid temperature adjustment between extreme day and night conditions
  • Reinforced steel frame structure to withstand strong winds at high altitude
  • UV-resistant exterior coating to protect against intense solar radiation

Logistics and Installation

The modules were shipped in flat-pack configuration — each 40-foot standard container can hold 12 module kits, significantly reducing sea freight costs. Goods departed from Shanghai Port, crossed the Pacific to San Antonio Port, Chile, then traveled approximately 1,300 km by road to the mining site in the Andes.

On-site assembly used a fully bolted connection system — no welding required. Our engineering team provided on-site supervision, completing assembly of all 240 modules within 20 days.
