"Too noisy" is the most frequent — yet most ignored — complaint in camps. A neighbor's snoring, footsteps in the corridor, the low hum of equipment: all are magnified in a tired night.
Good sound insulation is not simply thicker walls. It is a complete design:
Sleep is the foundation of every kind of quality. A worker who cannot sleep well will compromise his daytime attention, judgment and safety the next day. Investing in sound insulation is investing in safety.
Shared rooms are a realistic choice under cost pressure, but the loss of privacy quietly erodes a worker's sense of dignity and belonging.
Even in shared space, design can carve out "a corner of one's own" for each person:
Privacy is not a luxury. It is basic respect for "every person is an individual." And workers who feel respected are far more willing to respect the job and stay loyal to the camp.
In the past, camp design ran on one logic: "meet the minimum needs at the lowest cost." Today, that equation is being rewritten:
A good camp = more stable workers + lower churn costs + higher productivity.
Lighting, sound insulation and privacy — these "soft" design choices produce no direct output, yet they silently rewrite a camp's economics. They cost little but pay the most, because their subject is people.
And people are the scarcest, most expensive resource in mining.
